Farewell Dr. Barbara Baker

Dr. Barbara Baker, International President 1986-1988, died in Phoenix on January 30, 2016. Dr. Baker was a member of Alpha Delta and a recipient of both the Omicron State Achievement Award and the International Achievement Award. A child of a military family, she attended public schools in five states.

She was a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin and received her M.A Degree in education from The American University in Washington D.C. Her Ed.D was from Peabody College at Vanderbilt, Nashville, Tennessee. She was a physical education and health education instructor/specialist and was published several times in various physical education journals, as well as the Spring, 1989 DKG Bulletin.

Dr. Baker was initiated into Upsilon Chapter of Iota State, in 1958 and was state president in Virginia from 1975-1977. At the international level, she served on several committees, was a member of The Educational Foundation Board of Trustees and served as Member at Large. The Society Mission Statement was formulated during Dr. Baker’s biennium as International President. Formalizing of the Forums also was accomplished.

Dr. Baker ‘s recreational interests included bird watching, photography, reading and collecting Native American jewelry and artifacts. She will be remembered for her strength, character, integrity and leadership.
