The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was founded in Texas in 1929 and in Guatemala in 1975. It is an honorary society for outstanding women in the field of education. Its purposes include: to encourage the professional growth of its members and other teachers; to increase professional interest and elevate the position of women educators; and to provide scholarships for young women with few economic resources who wish to become teachers. One of its activities is to offer educators the opportunity to attend seminars and professional development workshops. Currently there are three chapters in Guatemala--two in the capital city and one in Antigua.

Hogar Miguel Magone
Every year we help the children at this orphanage by providing school uniform pants for the 45 resident boys ages 4 to 17. We try to find donors for other needs such as shoes, school supplies, clothing, and food. We also collect newspapers for them to sell. If you would like to know more about this project click http://www.davidgander.co.uk . On December 2005 the International Projects Committee of the Alpha Sigma State of Washington State in the U.S.A. made a donation to the Hogar and together we were able to provide uniforms and school supplies for 14 students attending High School. Thanks Alpha Sigma State!

Casa María home care for third age
The Gamma chapter in Antigua has devoted their community service to this home care that is a private home offering a place to live for adults in their third age. It receives donations from several people but specialy from the founder Ana Lidia Alvarado. They have around 70 people living in this house. They are in great need of kitchen accesories, linen and cleaning stuff. Gamma members visit the old people living there, talk to them and offer fun activities.

Casa del Libro (House of Books)
This is a private organization whose main goal is to provide a reading program for their community in Mixco, an outlying sector of greater Guatemala City. They have opened a small library for the neighborhood. They are organizing monthly conferences for people who are interested. Regina Campos has offered to be a guest speaker on several occasions. The last conference was "Reading to Develop Thinking skills." We are planning on starting a program whereby people can donate books for this library.
