      Lambda State Professional Affairs Committee
The Lambda State Professional Affairs Committee is responsible for the selection of the Florence A. Cook Recruitment Grant recipient(s).  Each year the committee must determine how much money is available and how many grants can be awarded. The Professional Affairs Committee, along with the Personal Growth and Services Committee, sponsor the Giving Tree at the Lambda State Convention to raise funds for the following year’s Florence A. Cook Recruitment Grants and the Lambda State Grant-in-Aid.

The Florence A. Cook Recruitment Grant was established by a $2,500 legacy from Florence A. Cook, Alpha Chapter, Lambda State for recruitment grants to female high school students planning to enter the field of education.  Grants are awarded for study at recognized and approved colleges and universities.  The number of grants and amounts of each are determined annually depending upon the available interest from the Florence A. Cook Fund, funds received from chapter donations, the donations made to the Giving Tree, and profits from committee fund-raisers   In 2010 six (6) $750 grants will be awarded at the Lambda State Convention in April.

The Professional Affairs Committee from each chapter will select only one application to be sent to the Lambda State Professional Affairs Committee for consideration.  The Florence A. Cook Recruitment Grant recipients will be chosen from the pool of chapter applications forwarded to the Lambda State Professional Affairs Committee.  Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:  academic excellence, leadership qualities, participation in school activities, contribution to the community and church, recommendation letters, and student essays.

The Lambda State Professional Affairs Committee encourages each chapter to submit an application for the Florence A. Cook Grant to help a deserving young lady realize her dream of becoming an educator.  We would also like to encourage everyone in Lambda State to enable these women to apply for these grants by donating to the Florence A. Cook Recruitment Grant, honoring or remembering someone by making a donation to the Giving Tree, and purchasing  fund-raiser items.

Applications for the Florence A. Cook Recruitment Grant are available on the Lambda State Website under Forms. Please use the current (2012) forms.  Make sure the forms are complete and that you have followed the correct procedure. Instructions to the chapter chair and applicant are also on line. The form may be filled out on the website, then printed and sent to your local Chapter Professional Affairs Chair.  Questions about the application may be directed to the Chapter or State Professional Affairs Chair.
