Directions for Applying
Alpha Gamma State of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International awards scholarships for graduate study, workshops, seminars, and other study programs to enable the members to be retrained and/or to develop professionally. The state scholarships are funded from a portion of the $1.00 scholarship fee paid annually by special gifts and memorial contributions. Only active members of Delta Kappa Gamma are eligible.
The State Committee on Scholarships screens the applications received and makes recommendations to the State Executive Board regarding the awarding of scholarships. Any monies not awarded at the State Convention will be placed in a contingency f und to be used throughout the fiscal year upon the recommendation of the Scholarship Committee with the approval of the State President and State Treasurer . Scholarships are granted to an individual once per year. A person can only receive two scholars hips. The maximum amount to be awarded is one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500.00). These scholarships will be funded from the following:
THE SARA RIVES SCHOLARSHIP FUND:
The first Alpha Gamma State scholarship was established in 1963
in honor of Sara Rives, a founder of Alpha Gamma State and the
State President from 1950 - 1953. Miss Rives was an elementary
supervisor in the Covington Public Schools from 1930 until her
retirement in 1968.
THE ETHEL PARKER SCHOLARSHIP FUND:
Dr. Ethel Parker was one of the founders of Alpha Gamma State and
the first State President. A state scholarship in her honor was
established in 1970. Dr. Parker served from 1928 until her
retirement in 1959 as head of the Department of Home Economics at
the University of Kentucky.
THE GERTRUDE COLLINS GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY
SCHOLARSHIP FUND:
This scholarship honors Miss Gertrude Collins, State Treasurer
from 1951 to 1989, and commemorates the founding of Alpha Gamma
State on March 24, 1937. The first Gertrude Collins Golden
Anniversary Scholarship was awarded in 1987. Miss Collins taught
secondary math in the Maysville City School System from 1925 to
1972.

1. The applicant must be a member in good standing of Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Gamma State, for at least two years.
2. The applicant must meet reasonable standards as far as general health and scholarship.
3. The scholarship must be used for graduate study in an approved institution of higher learning, workshops, seminars, and other study programs to enable members to be retrained and/or to develop professionally.
4. Emphasis will be attached to the contributions of the applicant to her chapter, to Alpha Gamma State, and to The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International as well as other evidences of potential service to education.
1. The applicant must submit the Alpha Gamma State Scholarship Application Form (This form may be obtained from the Chairman of the State Committee on Scholarships or from this website.) and a small, recent photograph. All information must be typewritten.

2. All applications and references must reach the Chairman of the State Committee on Scholarships by February 1 of the year the scholarship is needed. Applicants for graduate study scholarships must furnish a statement indicating that she has been admitted to graduate school and accepted into the program for which a scholarship stipend has been requested. Applications for workshops, seminars, and other study programs may also be submitted at this time.
3. Scholarship applications received by February 1 and approved by the Scholarship Committee will be voted upon and awarded at the State Convention in the Spring. Recipients recommended for awards will be notified and are highly encouraged to be present to receive their award.
4. Scholarship money not awarded at the State Convention will be placed in a contingency fund. Scholarships in the amount of five hundred dollars ($500.00) or less may be awarded throughout the year for workshops, seminars, and other study programs upon the approval of the Scholarship Committee, the State President, and the State Treasurer. Applications must be submitted to the Chairman of the State Committee on Scholarships .
5. Upon request, these and other papers submitted
by the applicant will be returned. Confidential letters sent to
the Committee will be retained.
