Lambda Chapter’s last meeting of the year was held in
Williamsburg, Kentucky, on May 2nd, 2009. The luncheon meeting was held at the Cumberland Inn and 30
ladies were in attendance.
Business
covered during the meeting was presenting a Volunteer Hours certificate to Mary
Ohler of Corbin, Kentucky. She had
over 1100 hours of volunteer service and the highest number of hours for the
chapter.
The
two recipients of the Corean Wells Education Award were Eli Rink, a senior
Education major at the University of the Cumberland’s.
She has accepted a job in the Fayette County School System this fall.
Jaclyn Chadwell was the recipient from Williamsburg High School.
She will attend EKU in the fall in Education. Each young lady was
presented a check for $100 dollars to be used toward their educational expenses.
Officers
for the 2010-2012 bienniums will be chosen from the Laurel County members.
A slate of officers will be presented to the membership at the last fall
meeting of this year for approval.
The
chapter remembered Gladys Bordes and Gayle Lawson with a special memorial
service in their honor. These
ladies were long time members of Delta Kappa Gamma and Lambda Chapter. Marilyn
Schraeder provided special music for the memorial service. She played “Going Home” on the recorder and led the group
in singing ‘We Remember Them in Love”. The program consisted of special
music provided by two students from the University of the Cumberland’s.
Our speaker was the Superintendent of the Bell County School System,
George Thompson, speaking on the changes in education in the state and how it
would impact the classroom teacher.
One
new initiate was voted on and accepted. She
will be initiated in the fall of 2009. Lunch was served to members and guests
and the meeting was adjourned by 1:00 p.m.
