Phi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma met on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 10:30 AM at The Presbyterian Church in Danville, KY.
Anne Turcea, MD presented the program on Women's Health Issues. She said the number one killer of women is cardiovascular disease which increases after menopause. She discussed hormone replacement therapy, the need for adequate sleep, and various treatments for bone loss. She encouraged members to take advantage of the free ovarian cancer screening at the Markey Cancer Center. Call 1-800-76ovary to make an appointment.
After a potluck brunch, President Jan Bradshaw called the meeting to order. She read a selection on choices from When God Whispers Your Name by Max Lucado for the thought of the day. Areas of concern were that Sue Perkins has bronchitis, Sheils Burn's husband was in a bad wreck and is recovering, and Marjorie Pappas' son is experiencing some health issues.
Fifteen members shared a kindness they experienced or witnessed during the ice storm as Faye Bosley called the roll. The minutes of the November 22, 2008 meeting were approved. A letter was read from Mandy Coy thanking the chapter for the grant-in-aid she has received and stated this was her last semester,
Nancy Hood read a note from Debbie Dennis thanking the members for the rose, thoughts, and prayers when her mother died.
Treasurer Debbie Dennis reported that there was a balance of $1003.05
Marjorie Pappas, 1st Vice President, said plans for the April meeting were not confirmed yet.
Diane Goodwin, 2nd Vice President, commended members for the nine recommendations for membership. Brief information was shared about Adele Greenburg, Marilyn Powell, Debbie Lawson, Shari Stewart, Vicki Nowlin, Monnie Berger, Charlotte Preston, Tammy McGinnis, and Jackie Day. Marjorie Pappas made a motion to invite all nominees for membership. Gail Riley seconded the motion. Orientation for new members will be Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Diane Goodwin's house. She will send invitations and directions.
Judy Underwood announced that the Kentucky School for the Deaf book party has been postponed until March. Jan Bradshaw will email members when a date has been set.
Members were reminded of the State Convention in Elizabethtown, KY on April 24-26, 2009.
The next meeting will be April 16, 2009 at 5:30 to initiate new members. After the meeting was adjourned at 12:30 PM, member wrapped books for the KSD book project.
