Jamaican Teacher Project                                                                                children

Co-chairmen of the Special Projects Committee are Amy Hobbs and Beth Lofquist.
Our Jamaican Teacher Project has grown over the years. WCU has been involved with
the  training of Jamaican teachers since the '70's.Alpha Iota has been making  this one
of our annual project contributions. Members assembled the supplies and packed up boxes
at the May 2011 meeting. Special thanks to the Graham County Future Teachers organization
for doing the shopping. Thanks also  to all our members for your personal financial and material
donations. The Jamaican teachers will be most appreciative of our donations when they arrive
at WCU this summer. Jamaican schools are very poor. Their teachers make up for this with
their creative spirits.Members of Alpha Iota have tried to assist these teachers in training by
supplying each with a gift box of supplies for their classroom. Each year the delivery of the gift
boxes is a highlight of their trip to WCU. Stay tuned for more photos!

Going Green

Grant in Aid Assistance

For many years Alpha Iota has financed grant-in-aid assistance for college students through the annual Christmas auction. This year the meeting and auction was once again held at the beautiful Lambuth Inn in Waynesville. Members enjoyed the beautifully decorated Inn and participated in a lively auction for the many baked, canned, and homemade goodies. Included in the auction was a raffle for Evelyn Pangle’s traditional chocolate pound cake and Vivian Johnson beautiful, quilted table runner. When the last item was awarded, the chapter had collected $ 1735, enough to continue to give two grants-in-aid in the spring.
