A few words from Alpha Zeta State President, Claire Swanson:
By the time you read this, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society will have grown by one country. As of November 27, 2009, Panama is the newest state organization. I hope you have been busy searching out new members for your chapter so that Alpha Zeta State
continues to grow, too! I’m looking forward to welcoming these new members at our State Convention.
Before we know it, the 2010 Alpha Zeta State Convention will be here! State 1st Vice President Roxanne Adinolfi and the state program committee have worked very hard to assemble a wonderful array of workshops. This year, in response to requests made in last year’s convention evaluation forms, we are making some adjustments to the schedule so that there will be no conflicts during Saturday morning’s workshops. This will allow everyone to attend a morning workshop if they so choose. Note that we do read the evaluation forms and attempt to make changes that the majority of the respondents request if they are at all possible, so please remember to fill out the evaluation form at the end of this year’s convention. Your comments do make a difference.
We are honored this year to have the 2008-2012 Member- at-large, Carolyn Pittman, as our International representativeto the Convention. Please be sure to greet her and share any questions or concerns you might have about the international organization. We will also be trying something new this year, an Info Fair modeled after those held at Regional Conferences, to provide you with information about the work of different International committees and the programs that are available to you from the international organization. Plan to stop by and expand your knowledge and understanding of the Society.
I hope to see you at the state convention. I also hope that you will plan to join me in Spokane, Washington for the International Convention, July 20 – 24, 2010. International President Carolyn Rants has secured some very dynamic speakers for the Convention, so it should be a very interesting week. If you are going to Spokane and would be willing to present a workshop, you will find workshop proposal forms on the International website; please note that these proposals must be submitted by February 15, 2010 (forms are available at the Spokane Convention web page - click here). (A Pdf of the hotel flyer is attached here)
Delta Kappa Gamma is a busy and expanding organization! Take advantage of all that it has to offer and workto continue its expansion on the chapter and state level.

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International's Communications Committee has suggestions to help us out - Click here for the Tip of the Month
From December's Tip of the Month; It’s coming in January! Social networking will be launched on
the International website. According to Linda Eller, International
Communications Services Administrator, the new URL for the
international site will be dkg.org She further states that the website
will have a new appearance and new navigation that aims to make
it much easier to find what members need. The social networking
aspect will allow members to connect with like-minded groups
without regard to time or place. The benefits of having a secure
way of exchanging ideas are endless. Committees can work without
physically coming together, state officers can share ideas with
officers in other states and webmasters and editors can work together
to share expertise.

Share your ideas on “buzzing”! We learn from each other. Submit your ideas to Dr. Beverly Helms |
The GoLightly platform will house the network and be a part
of the International website. Within this site, members will have
web 2.0 tools to create committee wikis, develop blogs, establish
private discussion forums and use video and images to convey
meaning to today’s new teaching generation.
In addition to wikis and blogs, web 2.0 tools can include social
bookmarking, like delicious.com, RSS, tag clouding, podcasts,
photo sharing and online video or media, such as YouTube or
TeacherTube. Most of these tools are free. All you need to do is
sign up for an account. As you become involved in the social
community, your learning increases. If some of the terms mentioned
in the article are not familiar to you, Google the term; then
join in learning more about social networking in January. One good
source for learning more about the subject are some YouTube
videos that can be accessed very easily. They are “Social Networking
in Plain English,” “Social Media in Plain English” and “RSS in
Plain English.”
