Our History

Sponsored by Alpha Chapter of Alpha Delta Ohio, the Gamma Rho Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma International was established June 8, 1963, with seventeen initiates and seven transfer members. (See our Charter Members' List.)  The organizational meeting was held at Johnny Garneau's Restaurant in Brecksville, Ohio.  Miss Grace Sackett had organized the meeting.   Seven meetings were held the first year with the program theme "Women in a Changing Culture".

Throughout its history, Gamma Rho members have received many honors and commendations.  We proudly recognize the following members who have been honored as leading educators.  They have had school buildings dedicated to their service and named in their honor.  They are:

Bessie Kinsner        Bessie Kinsner Elementary School

                                                           Strongsville City Schools

Vivian Smith            Vivian L. Smith Elementary School

                                                             Berea City Schools

Marguerite Raub    Marguerite Raub Elementary School

                                                              Berea City Schools

Gamma Rho has been a Gold Key Chapter for 27 years.  This honor recognizes the effective participation in activities advancing the purposes of Delta Kappa Gamma.

We are currently 81 members strong*.  See our membership roster.
