Chapter Project of Work

The chapter will support the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) Program (The SAFE Place) at the Mission Regional Medical Center in Mission, Texas, as one of its primary outreaches to the community for the 2012-2014 biennium. The S.A.F.E. Place is Hidalgo & Starr Counties' only acute, medical forensic unit open 24 hours/day, every day of the year, to treat adult and pediatric victims of sexual violence. This unit is staffed around the clock by a certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, who is either on-site or on-call to respond to the needs of victims and law enforcement, when the need arises.  While this medical service assists victims directly, it is also a matter of public health and safety, intended to protect the entire community from predation.
As a second major project, Epsilon Upsilon will continue a scholarship to benefit a graduating high school senior girl who has enrolled in a university and declared a major in education.
Further, the chapter will offer a Recruitment Grant to a student at the University of Texas at Pan American in honor of Verna Edgemon Green.  The chapter will also undertake various mini-projects tied to specific monthly programs.

The purposes of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International shall be:

I. To unite women educators of the world in a genuine spiritual fellowship.

II. To honor women who have given or who evidence the potential for distinctive service in any field of education.

III. To advance the professional interest and position of women in education.

IV. To initiate, endorse, and support desirable legislation or other suitable endeavors in the interest of education and of women educators.

V.  To endow scholarships to aid outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate study and to grant fellowships to non-member women educators.

VI. To stimulate the personal and professional growth of members and to encourage their participation in appropriate programs of action.

VII. To inform the members of current economic, social, political, and educational issues so that they may participate effectively in a world society.
