When Katherine Fuehrer, long time member of Delta Kappa Gamma, died at the age of 92 on April 5, 2003, she named Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International in her will.  Katherine specified that the funds be used to establish the Katherine H. Fuehrer scholarship.

Members of Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma who are working on a graduate degree are eligible to apply for the Katherine H. Fuehrer Scholarship. The scholarship is for $1,000 and will be paid to the institution the applicant plans to attend in the amount of $500 a semester.  The scholarship will be awarded in odd years, as funds are available.

The eligibility criteria are:

a) three years membership in Delta Kappa Gamma
b) acceptance/enrollment in an accredited graduate program in Education or Administration
c) active participation in Psi Chapter activities
d) regular attendance at Delta Kappa Gamma meetings
e) demonstrated leadership in Delta Kappa Gamma
f) leadership in school
g) service to the community

The following portfolio must be submitted as a completed package to the scholarship chairman by mid-February.  Any application that is incomplete will not be considered.

1. Personal Information:  Name, address, phone number, email (work and home), marital status, ages of children living at home or at college
2. Professional Information: Number of years in education, place of employment, position, graduate school you plan to attend, program of study, and number of years in Delta Kappa Gamma. List roles you have held in Delta Kappa Gamma (committees, offices, conferences or workshops attended, newsletter articles, special projects, etc.) and any other pertinent information that the Scholarship Committee might find helpful
3. Community, Church, or Civic Affairs: List activities, organizations, offices, awards, or special honors you have received
4. Brief essay (1-2 typed pages):  Discuss your participation, leadership, and service in Delta Kappa Gamma, your work setting, and your community
5. Three sealed letters of recommendation from: 1) principal, supervisor, or mentor, 2) peer (educator), 3) personal (community, church, civic, etc.)
