CRITERIA FOR ALPHA RHO STATE GRANT-IN-AID AWARDS

Dagmar Jeppeson and Edith Green
(Printable pdf)

  1. An applicant must be seeking an initial degree in education. She is required to have a standing of at least undergraduate junior status. Another possibility is that she may have a bachelor’s degree in a different field and currently be seeking an initial degree in education, making her status that of graduate student.
  2. Applicants will display evidence of service to the community, effective interpersonal skills, and general good health.
  3. Applicants will display evidence of excellence in scholarship.
  4. Funds will be distributed according to the levels of programs involved in the applications.
  5. Applications will be considered once during each fiscal year, and two due dates are involved:
    1. The applicant will submit the grant application to the sponsoring Oregon chapter by February 1 of that fiscal year.
    2. The sponsoring chapter will then have the responsibility of submitting the complete grant application, along with a chapter nomination letter, to the State Financial Awards Chair. This final due date will be March 1 of that fiscal year.
  6. Three recommendations are required with each grant application. Recommendations are to be submitted to the State Financial Awards Chair by each letter’s author and are due by the March 1 deadline date.
  7. Notification will be provided to grant applicants within one month following the March 1 deadline.
  8. It is possible that a grant recipient could be in a position to apply for an additional grant during a different fiscal year.
  9. If, for any reason, a grant-in-aid recipient cannot fulfill her proposed plan, the remainder of the grant is to be returned to Alpha Rho State.

CLARIFICATION OF GRANT-IN-AID AND SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FORMS:

ONE OF TWO DISTINCT APPLICATION FORMS WILL BE USED FOR GRANT-IN-AID APPLICANTS WHO ARE WORKING ON INITIAL PRE OR POST GRADUATE DEGREES IN EDUCATION AND ARE NOT YET CERTIFIED TEACHERS. THE TWO POSSIBLE FORMS ARE:

  1. A Dagmar Jeppeson Grant application form will be used for applicants pursuing early childhood/elementary through grade eight certification.
  2. An Edith Green Grant application form will be used for applicants pursuing secondary certification.

THERE IS ONE DISTINCT APPLICATION FORM FOR ALL STATE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED BY CURRENT DKG MEMBERS.

Awards and certificates will be presented at chapter meetings if at all possible. Presenting at state conventions will be another option. If there is no other way, awards and certificates will be mailed to recipients. Rev. Sept. 2012
