  1. CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF THE FIVE STATE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
    (Hazel Fishwood, Emma Henkle, State Founders & Presidents, Isabelle Huston Commemorative,
    Personal Enrichment Commemorative)

    1. An applicant must be an active member of an Oregon DKG chapter.
    2. Applicants will display evidence of excellence in service to DKG and the community, effective interpersonal skills, and general good health.
    3. Applications will be considered three times each fiscal year, and due dates will be August 1, December 1, and March 1. All applications will be sent to the State Financial Awards Chair.
    4. Funds will be distributed according to the levels of programs involved in the applications.
    5. Notification will be provided to applicants within one month following each deadline date.

     

    CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF ALL GRADUATE STUDY STATE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

    1. Three recommendations are required with each application, at least one of these three to be written by a member of the applicant’s chapter. Recommendations will be submitted to the State Financial Awards Chair by each letter’s author.
    2. Applicants will display evidence of excellence in scholarship.
      1. If the proposal is for study toward an advanced degree, a college transcript of the last degree completed is to be sent to the State Financial Awards Chair from the appropriate college or university.
      2.  If in the second year of an advanced degree program, a transcript will be sent from the institution in which the candidate is enrolled.
    3. Graduate study awards will not be given for work to attain an initial bachelor’s degree.
    4. Order of preference used for award recipients will be acceptance into: post-doctoral studies, a doctoral degree program, post-master’s studies, a master’s degree program, post-bachelor’s studies, special certification, workshops, personal enrichment projects, and any other academic program that will further qualify the applicant in the field of education.
    5. An applicant may apply for both a state award and an international award, but she may not accept both in the same calendar year.
    6. If an applicant is not selected for an award, she is encouraged to apply again.
    7. An Oregon state member may receive a total of three state scholarships in her lifetime.
    8. If, for any reason, a scholarship recipient cannot fulfill her proposed plan, the remainder of the scholarship is to be returned to Oregon, Alpha Rho State.

    COMMEMORATIVE SCHOLARSHIPS

    1. Commemorative financial awards have two categories:
      1. Personal enrichment opportunities include such activities as workshops, study programs, seminars, conferences, non-credit coursework, Road Scholar programs, and activities that will aid in personal growth.
      2. Isabelle Huston commemorative awards are presented for such activities as graduate study, special certification, and personal enrichment.

    THERE IS ONE APPLICATION FORM FOR ALL STATE SCHOLARSHIPS.

    A SEPARATE APPLICATION FORM WILL BE USED FOR GRANT-IN-AID APPLICANTS WHO ARE WORKING ON INITIAL PRE OR POST GRADUATE DEGREES IN EDUCATION.

    Awards and certificates will be presented at chapter meetings if at all possible. Presentations at state conventions will be another option. If there is no other way, awards and certificates will be mailed to recipients. Rev. Sept. 2012
