Alpha Phi State ProjectThe state project - eliminating childhood obesity - is still a GO for the second year. The name of the project is 15/4/YOU. This stands for 15 minutes at least four times a week for You. This name is on the booklet and the bookmark. West Virginia is number one on the childhood obesity list. West Virginia needs to move down on this list and no longer be number one. Other groups in the state have projects addressing this matter. Members of Alpha Phi State are closer to the school system then any other group. We are and have been in the classroom with the children we want to reach. This is good. Other projects will not reach as many counties as we can. For the state project, each chapter is asked to select at least two classes in your area; we have reached students from preschool to middle school. For each person in these classes you will provide a booklet, a bookmark, and an exercise band or, if you choose, some other type of exercise equipment. When you come to the August meeting please bring me a copy of your plan to implement this State project and the name of a contact person in your chapter. One chapter had already put the project to work during the 2007-2008 school year and last year we had 27 chapters involved in this state project. We will have all of the exercise bands, booklets and bookmarks ready for you in August. So plan to attend the meeting in August. Be excited as we go into the second year, ready to make a positive change for West Virginia children. At the August training I will have a report form for you to fill out and send to me or you can email me with your results so that I may fill out the mid-year report for the Educational Foundation. For those of you not at the state convention, we did receive a $2,000.00 grant for exercise equipment from The Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Foundation. For this grant we must provide a mid-year and year-end report. Also, we can reapply next year for additional funds. At the August meeting the new state directory will be available. The number of directories will be the same as last year for each chapter.
