CHAPTER MINUTES - Meeting January 23, 2009

Members in Attendance: Gwen Dixon, Leonora Lawrence, Linda Rogers, Teresa Horn, Betty Niedoroda, Joy Moore, Edna Owens, Missy Jungling, Rhonda Work, Jo Anne Arnett, and Susan Vinson.

We enjoyed a breakfast of various muffins, sausage rolls, and breads beginning at 9:55 following the Blessing given by Jo Anne Arnett. The Personal Growth Committee was responsible for today's program. Emily Ruddell (Beta Phi Chapter member, retired Hartsfield teacher, and cancer survivor) gave a presentation on "Reach for Recovery", a support program for people recovering from breast cancer. She passed out bookmarks and various pamphlets. Highlights of her presentation included:

Reach for Recovery, a program made of 30 volunteer women from Tallahassee (and are one year or more breast cancer survivors), who are on-call for one week at a time as contacts for women who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer. American Cancer Society office in Tallahassee has a library full of items available for cancer patients. These items include wigs, scarves, hats, etc. Road to Recovery, a program that provides volunteer drivers who take cancer patients who don't have transportation to their treatments. Anyone can volunteer for this program and are asked to drive patients about once every six months.

Missy Jungling presented Emily with stationery as a thank-you gift.

Approval of Minutes: Approved

Treasurer's Report: The treasurer's report was approved. As of Jan. 23, 2010, we had a balance of $1265.95. $129.00 was donated to Grant-in-Aid since we had the money in the budget.
Corresponding Secretary's Report: Cecilia Hack was not present.

New Business:
  • We reviewed the recommendation for membership for Dr. Jane Williams. She is director of training at Biblical Studies and a former employee of DOE. Edna Owens moved to accept her as a member, and Linda Rogers and Betty Niedoroda both seconded the motion. Motion was approved. Dr. Williams will be initiated at the March 18th meeting.
  • Linda Rogers, Betty Niedoroda, and Teresa Horn volunteered to join Missy Jungling on the committee of recommend future officers. Officers up for election are President-elect, Corresponding Secretary, and Recording Secretary. The new officers will be voted on at the March 18th meeting.
Meeting Reminders:
  • District 1, Feb. 5th and 6th at Bay Point Marriott Resort in Panama City Beach. R. Work, B. Niedoroda, J. McClung, and M. Jungling will be attending. We are responsible for an auction basket so $50 will be taken from the budget to purchase items for this basket.
  • Legislative Day, Feb. 27th at 10:00 in the new Maguire Center at Westminster Oaks. The speaker will be Mr. Miller, Superintendent of Wakulla County Schools.
  • Next chapter meeting, March 18th, TBA.
Newsworthy Items:
  • LaTressa Oder got married on Jan. 23rd. Dawn James's daughter was flower girl.
  • Connie Lewis's mother is in ill health. Please keep both in your prayers.
  • June Townsend's mother-in-law passed away. Please keep June and her family in your prayers.
  • Thanks to all who participated in Making Strides for Breast Cancer. A list was passed around of the members who walked and/or were financial contributors.
Meeting was adjourned at 10:35.
