February 8, 2020

The February meeting of Beta Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma was called to order by President Peggy McFadden at 11:00 at J.J.’s Restaurant. Eight members were present.


Members participated in the recitation. The minutes of the December meeting were approved as read. Treasurer Lisa Stearns reported an ending balance of $2,976.50. There was no correspondence.

Committee Reports: For Communications Peggy McFadden reported that the website is up and running. There was no report for Excellence in Education or SEE. For Finance Lisa Stearns reminded members that dues had increased by $2. These monies are currently going to the general fund, but can be used for a designated purpose later if needed. For Membership Jessie Lashley relayed that a new member will be inducted at our next meeting. Under Nominations, we have a vacancy in the positions of Treasurer and Membership Chair. Rose Brown reported that scholarship applications are due by March 31. The group discussed sending applications to SEE participants and district Professional Development personnel next year. Jane Hinton reported that the group usually decides in May about contributing to the World Fellowship fund.

Old Business: Peggy McFadden has visited the Mid-Missouri council in Columbia. She is still researching other councils. Participation in a council is now considered for points in the state chapter awards criteria. Our chapter goals continue to be 1) increasing membership and 2) supporting Operation Food Search. Debbie Trupiano moved that the chapter reimburse Chris Guinther for backpacks for Operation Food Search if necessary. The motion was seconded and passed.

New Business: Members participated in the “What’s New With You” activity. Jessie Lashley has requested reserve membership due to her parents’ health issues. This request was moved, seconded, and passed. Peggy McFadden is preparing changes to chapter rules and by-laws. She will e-mail changes to members to review. Peggy reminded members to submit required reports. The deadline for the Key Women Educators Award is March 1. We will assist with the food drive at Hollenbeck Middle School in March. Dues were collected.


Birthdays were recognized and Peggy McFadden presented a program on menopause.

December 8, 2019

The December meeting of Beta Omega Chapter or Delta Kappa Gamma was called to order by President Peggy McFadden at 2:30 at the home of Roberta Rose. Eight members were present.



Members participated in the recitation. The minutes of the September meeting were approved as read. Treasurer Lisa Stearns reported an ending balance of $2,854.50. There was no correspondence.

Committee Reports: For Communications Peggy McFadden asked members to continue sending her articles for the newsletter. There was no report for Excellence in Education, Nominations, Finance, or World Fellowship. For Membership, Jessie Lashley relayed that we would probably induct one new member at our February meeting. For Scholarship Rose Brown reported that applications have been sent out. The group discussed also sending applications to district Professional Development personnel. For SEE Rose Brown also reported that the program is proceeding well with six participants.



Old Business: Peggy McFadden reported that she and Rose Brown visited with a council in the St. Louis area. More research will be obtained regarding which council Beta Omega may join. More information will also be obtained regarding the benefits of joining a council. Bylaws and the constitution will need to be updated in 2020. Dues of $65 will need to be paid between February and May of 2020. Members are encouraged to pay dues at the February meeting. Peggy McFadden reminded members to sign in to the Delta Kappa Gamma website.



New Business: Members participated in the “What’s New With You” activity. The nominations slate will be President: Peggy McFadden, Vice President: Linda Mayher, and Secretary, Roberta Rose. There is a vacancy in the Treasurer position. The group will participate in Operation Backpack in February. Chris Guinter will research buying the backpacks as a group.


Birthdays were recognized, and members participated in the annual Christmas auction. Following adjournment members participated in a “Me In A Box” activity.

September 7, 2019

Guest Speaker Officer Tony Michalka of the O’Fallon Police Department provided an overview of Fraud and Scam Prevention.
The meeting began at 11:38 with ten members and one guest present. The minutes from the May 11th meeting and the Planning Meeting were accepted as read. An operating balance of $2,134.00 was reported.

Committe Reports:

Old Business: Under old business a discussion was undertaken regarding our chapter joining the St. Louis Coordinating Council as we are the only chapter left in our current council. Peg will attend a meeting on October 12 of the St. Louis Council to bring information back to the chapter for further discussion. A President Survey is available until October 10. Peg has a link for any members who are interested. Members were asked to sign up and pay $20.00 to Peg for the materials for the Saturday, October 5 Craft meeting. Attendees need to bring a snack to share.

New Business: Under New Business Lisa Stearns presented the proposed budget. The budget was passed by a unanimous voice vote. President McFadden reminded members how to log in to utilize the Delta Kappa Gamma website. Linda Mayher reported that we have six teachers in SEE this school year. Lisa Stearns reported that we received a thank you note for the chapter donation to the World Fellowship fund, and that all pertinent financial forms have been filed with International. A meeting will be held for all potential members on September 30 at Hollenbeck Middle School at 5:30 pm. This is a required meeting for prospective members. Chapter members are encouraged to attend. Rose Brown reported that scholarship information will be out in the fall.


The meeting was adjourned at 1:42 pm.

The planning meeting for Beta Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma was called to order by President Peggy McFadden at 11:00 at J.J.’s Restaurant. Eleven members were present.
Peggy McFadden reminded members to update e-mail information on the international website. There will be a state leadership conference in Jefferson City on June 22.
Peggy reviewed the mission, vision, history, and purposes of Delta Kappa Gamma. The group will continue working with the SEE program and the hunger project. Our membership goal will be to initiate two new members. There will be a fall membership meeting. Members were encouraged to complete prospect cards. Chapter By-laws will need to be updated.
Jessie Lashley read a thank you letter for our contributions during the food drive and for the backpacks. Our contributions were valued at over $2900.
Chris Guinther indicated that the Empower Missouri conference on November 9 will focus on hunger issues.
Chapter dues will need to be paid between February and May. Members planned for meetings to be held on September 7, October 5, December 8 (December 15 backup date), February 8 (February 22 backup date), May 2, and June 4. Summer birthdays were recognized.

May 11, 2019

The May meeting of Beta Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma was called to order by President Peggy McFadden at 11:00 at J.J.’s Restaurant. Nine members and one guest were present. Members participated in the recitation. The minutes of the February meeting were approved as read. Treasurer Lisa Stearns reported an ending balance of $3,336.05.

Committee Reports: For Communication Peggy McFadden reminded members to check websites for information. There was no report for Excellence in Education. For Finance Lisa Stearns indicated that the books will be audited. She also explained the new dues collection procedures. There was no report for Membership or Nominations. For Scholarship Rose Brown reported that the grant-in-aide was won by Michelle Berryman who will use the funds to enhance technology in her classroom. For World Fellowship the group voted to donate $50 to the fund for this year. For SEE Rose Brown reported that the group will have their last meeting before the end of the school year. She indicated that funds for the program appear to be sufficient.

Old Business: Peggy McFadden reminded members to complete prospect cards and to update personal information on the state website. Peggy McFadden reported that 1,318 pounds of food were collected during the recent drive. Donation cards for Schools for Africa were distributed. Chris Guinther spoke about attempts to alter the CLEAN act.

New Business: Members participated in the What’s New With You activity. Barbara Roach has resigned her membership due to health concerns. Beta Omega won several awards at the state convention. Peggy McFadden reviewed amendment changes that were approved at the state convention. One change involves reserve membership. Reserve membership is approved by a majority vote of the chapter after a request by the member requesting the status. Reserve membership is for members who are unable to participate fully due to a physical disability or illness or because of physical location. Beta Omega voted that reserve members may attend any meeting as a guest of the chapter. Linda Mayher, Lisa Stearns, and Peggy McFadden shared their experiences at the state convention. Due were collected, and Peggy McFadden received free dues for this year. The planning meeting was rescheduled to June 6 at 11:00 at J.J.’s. Susan Huber was inducted into membership. Birthdays were recognized.


The meeting was followed by a Founders Day program.
