Consider yourself a modern day explorer as you board our bus on your exploration of the “oldest American settlement west of the Rockies”.  Join the ranks of important visitors starting with Captain Robert Gray in 1792, Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery in 1805, John Jacob Astor in 1811, and now you.  Tour the Astoria Column with its breathtaking view over Astoria, the Columbia River, and the Megler Bridge all the way to Washington.  Tour Fort Clatsop, a replica of the fort as depicted in Clark’s journal.  On our return we head back through Astoria, past Famous Union Town, the Doughboy monument, and the beautiful Victorian homes of historic Astoria, destination:  The acclaimed Columbia River Maritime Museum, designated Oregon’s official State Maritime Museum.  This outstanding institution with 24,000 square feet of exhibit space was the first nationally accredited maritime museum in the Western United States.  You will ride in comfort on a 55 passenger bus with the minimum tour number of 20 persons.

Captain Christopher Lloyd will take you aboard the “Christina Cousteau”, a 40 ft. Tollycraft Yacht, docked only 5/6 blocks from our convention center.  The heated cabin and restroom facilities will add comfort to your trip.  The photo opportunities along the historic Astoria waterfront will make it exciting!  See the Astoria Megler Bridge from the Columbia River and sail below the great bridge pillars; hear the singing sea lions; view the huge ocean going ships up close and personal.  See the L&C National Wildlife Refuge, the eagle sanctuary, the hand-cranked railroad bridge, floating homes, and more.  He can even arrange personal tours at other available times. Ask at the Tour Desk at Holiday Inn Express, if for personal arrangements other than through DKG.  6-8 passengers is a comfortable number. Sign up early! 

Historic Walking Tour of Astoria – Friday, April 15 and Sunday April 17, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Visit one of Astoria’s elegant and historic residential neighborhoods.  The tour will focus on both the architecture and social history surrounding Astoria’s Victorian and Craftsman architecture. Local historian, John Goodenberger, will lead participants up and down hills packed with some of the finest residential architecture in Oregon. Each tour will be limited from 8 to 15 persons. Waterproof gear and stable walking shoes are recommended.
