ALPHA XI STATE SCHOLARSHIP REGULATIONS
Revised 1999
I. Minimum Regulations
1.The Alpha Xi State Scholarship is available to active members
in good standing in a chapter of Alpha Xi State of The Delta
Kappa Gamma Society International. Applicants must have been
in Delta Kappa Gamma for at least two (2) years. Preference will
be given to members who have served as an officer or committee
chairman.
2. An applicant must meet reasonable standards concerning
general health, personality, scholarship, professional service,
and other evidence of potentiality for future service.
3. An applicant must show distinction in her field of study.
4.An applicant must be accepted for graduate work in an approved
institution of higher learning. If post graduate studies have
been pursued, the applicant must be in good standing.
5. An applicant must plan to use the scholarship for pursuing
graduate work or seeking an advanced degree.
6. An applicant must be currently employed in educational
work or be planning to return to employment in the field of education
upon completion of graduate studies.
7. Previously unsuccessful applicants may apply again, but
recipients are ineligible for future scholarships.
II. Directions for Applying for the Scholarship
1.An application must be submitted on a form furnished by
the state scholarship chairman. A stamped, self-addressed envelope
(business size) must be included with a request for an application.
Application forms may be copied for distribution and for use.
2. The application must be returned to the state chairman
Mary Lou Doyle no later than March 1 of the year the scholarship
is desired.
3. The applicant must submit three (3) letters of recommendation
from persons qualified to speak specifically of character, personality,
ability, and scholarship. These should include a current professional
co-worked and the chapter president.
4. The application should be accompanied by a small recent
photograph.
5. FOUR ( 4) COPIES ARE NEEDED: THE ORIGINAL APPLICATION AND
RECOMMENDATIONS PLUS THREE COPIES OF EACH. (Only one picture
though)
6..An applicant must state whether she expects to receive
financial aid from any other source or sabbatical pay during
the year of the award for which she is applying. Preference will
be given to those receiving no other grant.
III. General Conditions of Acceptance
1. Within two (2) weeks after the successful applicant is
notified of her selection, she must notify the state scholarship
chairman of her acceptance of the award, or she will forfeit
the award.
2. The acceptance of a scholarship implies the obligation
on the part of the recipient to devote herself unreservedly to
study within the field of education.
3. Upon completion of the session for which the scholarship
is awarded, the recipient will advise the scholarship chairman
of her progress.
IV. Payment of Scholarship
1. Payment to each of the recipients will be made by the State
Treasurer.
