CHAPTER MINUTES - Meeting August 28, 2010

The first meeting of the 2010/2011 meeting began at Westminster Oaks with a wonderful breakfast and blessing by our new president, Missy Jungling. During breakfast, Missy introduced the officers. She gave a preview of the 2010/2011 schedule.

The schedule is as follows:

  • October 5, Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. - Membership/Growth Committee
  • November 20, Saturday, 11-1:00 p.m. - Initiation Luncheon at Wildwood ($15)
  • December 6, Monday, 5-8:00 p.m. - Shopping at 10,000 Villages
  • April 5, Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. - Technology/Communication Committee
  • May - Founder's Day (TBA)
  • July 13, Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. - Summer luncheon at Old Town
Rhonda Work presented the financial report and proposed budget. Gale Workman suggested using the $30 Rhonda had collected from members for the tote bag project to be put back into the budget to cover the cost of the laundry baskets. Jacque Clemens made a motion to accept the budget and Janice McClung seconded the motion. Rhonda also went over the cost of dues. Active dues are $85, reserve $35. Rhonda has established payment plans in 1, 2, and 3-month installments. All dues are due by October 31st payable to Rhonda Work, 3510 Lakeshore Dr., Tallahassee, FL 32312.

Missy explained she wanted everyone to have a choice to choose the committee they wanted to serve on this year. After the meeting, members were able to sign up.

Rhonda share this year's cancer walk would be on Sunday, October 24th at Southwood. She is unable to attend this year and is looking for anyone interested to serve as the chair.

A reminder was made to notify Linda Rogers or Missy Jungling of anyone in need of a card. Missy also wants all newsletter info sent to her at missyjungling@comcast.net.

Missy shared the names of two ladies she is recommending for membership: Katherine Kenton and Joy Miller. Katherine is a kindergarten teacher at Gilcrist and Joy is a 3rd grade teacher at Canopy Oaks. Both ladies received a vote of "yes" by all members.

Missy recognized Rhonda Work for all of her hard work she does for our chapter and Connie Lewis for keeping up with our chapter website and nametags.

At the end of the business meeting, Missy shared that Dr. Beverly Helms, International 2nd Vice President, received an academic achievement award and that Alpha Kappa member, Sherrill Ragans, had the new residence hall at FSU named after her, Ragans Hall.

After the business meeting, members broke into several groups. Many of the ladies helped Gale Workman stuff the tote bags her crochet group had made with school supplies for all the beginning teacher to Leon County. The other ladies worked on their "It's All About Me" scrapbook page or the Delta Kappa Gamma scrapbook.
