Treasurer's Report: As of October 1, 2009, our chapter has a cash balance of $2030.85, but the state and international dues still need to be taken out of this balance. The only expenditure was $94.86 for paper and ink cartridge purchased by Rhonda for all the copying she does as treasurer. Reminder: Dues of $85 are due October 31. Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk: This was discussed by Rhonda who is our chapter's chair for this fundraiser. The cancer walk will be held on October 25 at Southwood. Registration begins at 1:30. The walk begins at 3:00. Please attend even if you are not walking, but just want to cheer for those who are walking. Rhonda passed around a basket for donations and for people to sign up who will be attending. District 1 Meeting: This will be held in Panama City Beach on February 6, 2010. Registration is due by January 2, 2010. Our chapter is responsible for table decorations. Membership Recommendations: None were given at tonight's meeting. Announcements: Susan Womble has written her second book. Newt's World book launch will happen October 20th from 4-6 P.M. at Ability 1st. The Initiation Ceremony will be held Sunday, November 8th from 2:30-5:00 in the Gallery at Westminster Oaks. Rhonda gave an update on Gloria Ward and Ida Manning and suggested that we should call "our sisters" to see if they need rides to our meetings. Professional Affairs Program: Joy Moore discussed Autism disorders. She stated that children who are identified earlier have better chances of working through it and adjust better as they grow older. Autism is found in one out of every 150 children. Joy works for the FSU's Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD). She explained this facility was started 14 years ago for support of children with autism and to help families find free consultation, resources, and educational support. Joy also discussed the First Words Project. This is an early identification program. Doctors in town have a checklist they can use on children ages 9 to 18 months coming into their offices. If a child is found to have communication disorders, the doctor can refer the child to CARD. Joy shared pamphlets on both of these programs that give additional details. The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m. Respectfully, Teresa Horn, Recording Secretary ----------------- |
