Dear Alpha Kappa Member,

2010 seems to be moving forward at full sail! Can anyone tell me what happened to January!?!

If you are anything like me, you probably appreciate a bit of time to plan for the various events that surface throughout the month. As you read through the next couple of paragraphs you'll find the dates and times for some important Delta Kappa Gamma events. Please be sure to place them on your calendar!

The first event is Legislative Day. Your Big Bend Coordinating Council has been busy at work planning this event. We are especially excited to have Superintendent David Miller returning this year. Mr. Miller is the Superintendent of Schools for Wakulla County. In addition to his work as Superintendent, Mr. Miller is chairman for the Small School District Council Consortium and a member of the Board of Directors for the Florida Association of District School Superintendents. These posts require that Mr. Miller follow current legislation related to education; therefore, we look forward to the information that he will share on the morning of the 27th. Members will gather in the new Maquire Center at Westminster Oaks at 10:00 a.m. and Superintendent Miller will begin sharing information at 10:30 a.m.

The second event is our special chapter meeting that is scheduled for March 18th. We plan to meet in Conference Room A of the Maquire Center. This is a special chapter meeting because we will be initiating a new member! Jo Anne Arnett recommended Jean Williams for membership and our chapter's members unanimously voted acceptance during the January 23rd meeting. PLEASE plan to attend this important chapter meeting and meet our newest member!

The final event to place on your calendar is our annual Founder's Day celebration which has been scheduled for May 15th. Originally, we planned to celebrate this event in April; however, there was a scheduling conflict so it was moved to May. You can expect more information regarding this event that will take place at Cabell's American Bar and Grill off of Kerry Forest Parkway.

Smiles,

Janice

Webpage…

As your president, I was required to share a few words about our chapter for the District 1 ceremony when the new presidents were introduced to the congregation. It was so rewarding to share information about our webpage and the fact that we are making strides to "go green".

Hugs go to….

  • Jo Anne Arnett for hosting our January meeting at the Center for Biblical Studies, and recommending Jean Williams for membership. Jean appears to have all of the special qualities of a key woman educator. We soooooo thank you, Jo Anne!
  • Our Big Bend Coordinating Council for working diligently to ensure that our combined meetings (Initiation Ceremony, Legislative Day, and Founder's Day) well planned.
  • Carole Hardiman and her family who have been in our thoughts and prayers.

Roses go to…..

LaTressa Oder who was recently married! Congratulations, LaTressa!
