July, 2010 Newsletter #1

What: Chapter Meeting
Where: Old Town Cafe, 1415 Timberlane Road, ph: 893-5741
When: Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 11:30 a.m.

We are just getting together to enjoy each other and to share what is happening in each of our lives. There are two projects that we will briefly discuss:

1.  Applications for new members
2.  The crocheted gift pouches for beginning teachers.

After the luncheon, the executive board is going to set up the schedule of meetings for the next year.

Coming Events:

The first official chapter meeting for 2010-2011 will take place:

Saturday August 28th at 9:30 a.m.
Westminster Oaks Clubhouse

Directions to Clubhouse: Turn into gate off Dempsey Mayo Road (across from W.T. Moore Elementary School). Drive over 3 speed bumps. The pool house is on the left. You may park in any space without a number in it.

Those with last names beginning M-Z are to bring breakfast foods.

We hope that a large number of you will bring in your Recommendation for Membership forms. Won't it be nice to have these recommendations completed before the rush of the start of a new school year. I am attaching an application form to this letter. How exciting it will be to develop new friends and colleagues in Alpha Kappa !

Gale Workman has come up with a wonderful project. She and her crochet guild have crocheted uni-sexed bags to be given to all brand new beginning teachers in Leon County. She needs us to help fill the bags. Possible gifts to be included are:

  • a roll of life savers (to bribe a teammate to help you set up your bulletin board)
  • a small container of Rolaids or Tylenol (no explanation needed)
  • sticky notes (to remind you why you chose education as your profession)
  • a package of gum (to ease the tension of all THAT PAPERWORK)
We want to give these new teachers some much needed comic relief and for us to have fun also.

A personal note to Janice McClung and Rhonda Work: You have both been supportive and have made my transition to the presidency so much easier. I am deeply indebted to you both.

      With warm regards,

         Missy Jungling
