Congratulations to Dr. Laura L. Stachowski! Your article, "Through the Global Gateway: Transforming Student Teachers in Overseas Schools and Communities," was selected for inclusion in the Spring 2015, Vol 81-3 issue of The Delta Kappa Gamma Bulletin.
Beta Phi Chapter has embraced the SEE -- Supporting Early Educators project -- to help first-year teachers in Hendricks Co. Forms regarding needs were circulated to elementary schools, with 19 women replying with their various needs. A teacher from four districts (Plainfield, Danville, Avon, and Brownsburg) will receive materials collected by members plus a stipend for other items they might need in their classrooms. -- submitted by Sandy Bennett, president
Talk about clicking! That's how Indiana members felt upon meeting our recent International visitor, First Vice President Cathy Daugherty (right). No one felt that connection more than Ann Marie Kesler, Alpha Omicron, who received a special award from Daugherty. Daugherty recognized several state members who had made a huge difference in the success of the state organization.
Stephanie Walsh, Alpha Phi president, was one of 24 FIRST Robotics Mentors chosen nationwide to attend a 4-day U.S. Air Force/FIRST Robotics Leadership Experience in Colorado Springs, CO, August 3-6. The Leadership Experience included leadership seminars presented by United States Air Force Officers and touring the Aeronautical, Astronautical, and Mechanical Engineering Departments, cadet dormitories, as well as the famous Air Force Academy Chapel. A portion of the experience was also spent touring the nearby, highly secure, Schriever Air Force Base that houses the 50th Space Wing. While at Schriever AFB FIRST Mentors toured the GPS Operations department and both Classified and Non-Classified Communication Operations departments. Stephanie’s husband Kristopher, a FIRST Mentor as well, was also chosen to attend the experience making them the first married couple to ever attend the experience. Stephanie is a Science Educator, NASA Ignite! Curriculum Facilitator, and FIRST Robotics Mentor at Perry Central Jr-Sr High School in Leopold. Stephanie resides in Tell City, IN.
Congratulations to Carol Herzog, Alpha Zeta, who has been recognized by The Mailbox for her submission regarding the Personalized Alphabet Stories used each week to spotlight the letter of the week at the SonGrown Preschool where she is director/teacher. Carol wrote stories using each child's name and other words beginning with the letters of their names. The idea was accepted for publication in a future issue, and Carol received a $25-certificate.
